A man who somehow found a way to sneak into Rikers Island has been arrested. The convicted sex offender, 36-year-old Matthew Matagrano, impersonated a New York City Department of Correction employee in order to get into Rikers Island. According to reports, Matagrano -- who authorities believe had access to the facility for a week -- had an official radio and even an ID-card and shield, which he used to access the facility. Matagrano even came into contact with "numerous inmates" during the week he had access. Guards became suspicious after Matagrano moved inmates around from one cell to another. Department of Correction spokesman, Matt Nerzig, said the DOC was able to identify Matagrano through surveillance cameras and that his apprehension occurred within 24 hours of the department's awareness of the situation.
