Superhero sequel Iron Man 3 debuted in first place with a $175.3 million weekend box office, giving it the second-biggest domestic opening ever, after last year's The Avengers, which took in $207.4 million in its first weekend. Since opening overseas last weekend, Iron Man 3, the third film in the franchise after 2008's Iron Man and 2010's Iron Man 2, has taken in $680.1 million worldwide.
Robert Downey Jr. returns in the title role as Tony Stark, who's out for revenge after his world is ripped apart by a terrorist named Mandarin. Co-starring are Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce and Rebecca Hall.
